老鷹的故事

建德是我的好友。初中一同班，一直到大學先修班第一年。
小學就認識他，還是死對頭，貼切一點他的手下敗將。他寫了一手好書法，我只能排第二。印象最深刻應該是高一抄心經書法比賽，我們領獎回家的路上，摩托車爆胎，我們互相一個推車子，一個拿獎盃，走了幾公里的路。
先修班第一年，他接到工大錄取信，唸石油工程去，我記得那時候他告訴我：文字是一種毒。後來我考進農大，他在吉隆坡，我在沙登。那一段日子是他很down，醫生診斷他患上juvenile neumatoid arthritis。我記得有一次他來沙登過夜，幫我編詩集，腳趾又腫又痛，我陪他去找李醫生打止痛針。另一次是我摩托車在敦拉薩路爆胎，他讓我坐上朋友的汽車，他在前頭搖搖擺擺的幫我把摩托車開囘沙登。他的沮喪和放棄，我不難感受。左半身肌肉不斷萎縮，關節腫大，醫生甚至勸他接受事實，調整生活。
吉人天相的他最後遇到補習學生的母親，幾個月的腳底按摩，痊愈了！

新年年初三收到他簡訊，問我在哪裏。結果他在北馬，我在南馬。我隔天囘吉隆坡，他當天囘吉隆坡，隔天下新加坡。我半開玩笑的約他在Ayer Keroh的restoran jejantas。年初四我下午兩點到家，三點多接到他簡訊，雖然趕時間，走錯路，還在無拉港錯失兩次回轉，他還是帶了老婆和兩個小孩停在我新街場的家門前。

今天我收到他一封email，主題是The story of the eagle

The eagle has the longest life-span among birds.

In its 40’s, its’ long and flexible talons can no longer grab prey which serves as food.
Its’ long and sharp beak becomes bent.
Its’ old-aged and heavy wings, due to their thick feathers, become stuck to its’ chest and make it difficult to fly.
Then, the eagle is left with only 2 options: die or go through a painful process of change which lasts 150 days.
The process requires that the eagle fly to a mountain top and sit on its’ nest.
There the eagle knocks its’ beak against a rock until it plucks it out.
After plucking it out, the eagle will wait for a new beak to grow back and then it will pluck out its’ talons.
When its’ new talons grow back, the eagle starts plucking its’ old aged feathers.


2009年，我們41嵗。
